Hey! What are you working on and what led you to building with no code? Have you got any previous experience of building sites/apps?
I run Luhhu and we’re one of the only agencies dedicated 100% to helping businesses automate their workflows with Zapier. I first discovered Zapier 4 years ago, when I used it to streamline another one of my side hustles. I was instantly hooked, first building simple automations and then, as I became more experienced I found myself building ever more complex workflows and getting a serious buzz out of anything that would save me even a few moments of time each day.
In what feels like quite a natural progression looking back, I started offering to help other businesses do the same, and within 9 months it had become a full-time job.
What platforms and tools have you used to build Luhhu? How long did it take to build?
We’re a small business, just myself and a few other zap builders working for me as contractors, so I’ve embraced Zapier and other nocode tools internally to run things as efficiently as possible and give me the maximum amount of billable hours. Airtable acts as my CRM and marketing hub, Slack handles communications with my team and our website is built with Webflow.
How have you gone about growing your user base? What has been most effective?
Early clients were all found through Fiverr and Upwork, but I’ve worked over the last 12 months to reduce reliance on both these platforms. Now a bulk of our clients come through our website and through Zapier’s Certified Expert referral program which we’re a part of.
On top of that, I’ve invested heavily in building a voice and presence on Twitter (find me at @AndrewJDavison) where I actively help people looking for help and advice on Zapier, automation and nocode in general.
Have you monetised it yet and if so, what is your revenue model?
As a remote agency with minimal overheads we’ve been profitable since day one. We charge on an hourly basis, with a small stream of affiliate revenue coming in from various apps we refer people to.
What has been the hardest part of building, growing or monetising Luhhu?
Running an agency comes with challenges, not least of which being the need to balance time between business development, internal infrastructure scaling and having enough hours leftover to do work for clients. We’ve been steadily raising our hourly rate which means in 2020 we’ll be able to bring more people on to dedicate themselves to those areas, leaving me feeling less spread thin.
Do you have any tips on building, growing or monetising a no code product/business?
Be an active evangelist for the industry you’re in. Zapier and other nocode tools are very ‘new’ to many businesses. Their potential isn’t always clear to those outside the bubble and the ideal customer is likely to need educating. Invest in social media, blog and seek opportunities to talk to people about what you offer and why it will be useful for them or their business.
