Hey! What are you working on and what led you to building with no code? Have you got any previous experience of building sites/apps?
In my free time, I'm building incomee.co, a super simple invoicing & tracking app for creatives 🌟
I'm focusing on this project because I believe it's not easy as it should be, keeping track of all the earnings and remember when a payment is due or over two, and this prevents freelancers from planning and making wise decisions. The first problem that makes someone to fail in the project of becoming a freelancer or a successful business is bad financial planning.
How much money I'm making this month? When is a payment due? Is my income increasing or decreasing? Which payment is due today? Which one is overdue? These questions come to mind, and not having a clear answer pushes us to make wrong decisions and have no peace of mind about our income.
I had some experience building websites and web apps. Even if I'm a Product Designer, I started my career as a front-end developer more then 7 years ago. Back then I was developing websites for different clients. When I then started focusing on design, I found in Webflow the best help to transform quickly my design idea into live websites. Last year I discovered Bubble and everything changed for me, I could finally build real complex web platforms and not just websites.
What platforms and tools have you used to build Incomee? How long did it take to build?
I actually discovered Bubble last year while reading no coders stories and I was super excited, it was exactly the tool I was looking for. Bubble is a code-free programming language that lets you build and host web applications without engineers.
I'm using it to build the whole web-app, it's an incredible tool, so flexible that you can build almost everything in a short amount of time (asking myself why I didn't discover it before). Building the beta version of Incomee took me around 4 weeks (in part-time mode).
I recently released Incomee 2.0 🎉 A lot of improvements and new features thanks to all the feedback provided during the past months by the 300+ freelancers that are using Incomee every day ❤️
How have you gone about growing your user base? What has been most effective?
I'm a lead Product Designer during the week so I'm working on Incomee during my free time 🙌. The main priority until now was to get as much feedback as possible from real users to improve/fix the app quickly. I honestly didn't focus a lot on marketing/acquisition.
I finally released the version 2.0 recently with all the main problems fixed and some highly requested features and now I planned to focus more on growing the user base.
I will share more stories about the project and the process used with the community, dedicate more time on socials and online communities. Probably I will also use some paid campaigns in the future.
Have you monetised it yet and if so, what is your revenue model?
The platform is completely free to use and it will remain free forever. No subscriptions ✌️
Incomee revenue comes exclusively from the usage of the online payment feature. To get paid even faster and without having to think about it freelancers can enable the card payments in all the invoices. We change just 2% of the amount paid by the client.
We also just released the auto invoice feature that helps freelancers to invoice the clients automatically on the due date, so they can pay online with credit cards and freelancers can focus on what's is more important for them.
What has been the hardest part of building, growing or monetising Incomee?
The hardest part of building Incomee was to have the online payment system that works. Bubble lets you integrate your app with other platforms through their plugins and this makes the tool so powerful.
I used Stripe to manage the payments. But even if there is a plugin that helps you to connect your app with Stripe, it was really hard to make it working properly and for different currencies.
About growing, the toughest part is actually finding the time and create engaging marketing content. As always you need to prioritize the work and focus on the most important tasks first.
Do you have any tips on building, growing or monetising a no code product/business?
The no-code industry is evolving a lot and very quickly. We now have more tools than ever to built an MVP of almost any kind of product we have in mind. These tools are incredible because they allow us to built and validate ideas in a few weeks instead of waiting months.
In my opinion, the key is to be open-minded, don't be too attached to your first idea. When your MVP or better MDP (Minimum Delightful Product) is out, talk with the users and get as much feedback as possible. Be open to change your product based on the user needs/feedback, it's the most important thing.
The future is so excited for no coders!
